Animal Research Regulations -The Role of IACUC and AAALAC in Animal Research (Part 2)
In part two of the FASEB webinar series on animal research regulations, speakers will elaborate on the role of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC International) in ensuring animal research is conducted safely. This webinar will assist researchers to 1) understand how the laws and guidelines discussed in Webinar 1 serve as a basis for the functions of IACUC and AAALAC, 2) recognize their responsibilities in research compliance, and 3) learn how to effectively communicate with these groups.

Animal Research Regulations - Understanding Federal Oversight Mechanisms - Part 1
Переглядів 1,1 тис.4 роки тому
Animal research is an integral part of medical progress, and scientists understand that good science and good animal care go hand-in-hand. Biomedical research with animals is guided by a complex set of federal laws and guidelines, and understanding how this research is regulated is critical for ensuring proper care and use of laboratory animals. In part one of this FASEB webinar series on anima...

FASEB & NIH NIGMS Present Diversifying the Research Organism Landscape
Переглядів 2014 роки тому
Scientists understand that good science depends on a multitude of factors, including the use of the best resources to answer a scientific question. However, an important question to consider when designing a research project: Are we leading with the scientific question first, or do we select the research organism we know and try to tailor the research according to the model’s characteristics? I...

Time Management and Workplace Culture Do Longer Hours Mean Higher Productivity and
Переглядів 3495 років тому
There is an unspoken perception within the scientific community: if you aren’t working at least 60 hours a week, then you are less productive and passionate about your research. This has led to a culture in which scientists often become competitive and brag about their excessive time spent in lab and display their exhaustion like a badge of honor. This webinar will explore how long hours in the...
FASEB & AAMC Presents Animal Research Still Necessary for Understanding Human Disease

Computers, Internet, cell phones, barcodes, and MRIs are just a few tangible benefits from research funded by the National Science Foundation. NSF’s support for fundamental research is critical to discovery, innovation, and the economic growth of our nation. Yet funding for the NSF has remained flat for 15 years. It’s time for Congress to increase funding to the NSF because the NSF Matters . . ...

They still abuse the animals, they're just better at not getting caught. These research facilities get federal funding to torture animals while not inventing anything worthwhile. Waste of money.

This is so incredibly well-done!!! (from message to presentation to clarity to "short-and-sweet" length to keep someone's attention). What a great way to demonstrate the basic communication problem between scientists and the public (which personally I think scientists, like myself, are mostly to blame -> when asked the question "should we fund diabetes research or study bacteria", it shouldn't be surprising that most non-researchers choose the former).

It's actually really cool. A new form of art! Better than those stupid squiggles and two color squares in museums that a 2-year old could draw anyway.I was at an art contest one time and there were some real artists and photographers there alright. What won the "entire" event as best in show? A piece of freakin mold someone had taken a picture of off a sidewalk. And it sold afterward too for like $350 or more. Art is often a very odd thing.
